The Digital Transformation Agency of Australia (DTA) has established comprehensive accreditation standards that organizations must meet to provide digital identity services. This new framework is set to replace the existing National e-Authentication Framework and Third Party Identity Services Assurance Framework.

In November 2017, the Australian Government initiated a public consultation on a draft Trusted Digital Identity Framework. Over 1,000 comments were received from various stakeholders, including the financial sector, privacy advocates, digital identity experts, and the general public. These inputs significantly influenced the development of the framework’s standards.

Later in 2018, the Australian Government will introduce further components to enhance the framework. These additions include options for creating a digital identity offline and establishing protocols for individuals to act on behalf of businesses.

The new features aim to address challenges faced by those who lack necessary documentation for online identity creation. They also intend to streamline interactions between businesses and government, thereby simplifying bureaucratic processes and making work more efficient.
