According to a study by PandaLabs, 2015 saw the creation of over one-quarter (27.63%) of all recorded malware samples.
In terms of the types of malware, Trojans dominated in 2015 with 51.45% of the total samples, followed by viruses at 22.79%, worms at 13.22%, potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) at 10.71%, and spyware at just 1.83%.
2015 marked a significant year in the prevalence of malware, with notable computer infections occurring that year.
China led in terms of infection rates, with an impressive figure of 57.24% of infected computers. This was almost 30% higher than the rate seen in 2014. Taiwan and Turkey followed closely behind with infection rates of 49.15% and 42.52%, respectively.
Colombia, Uruguay, and Spain also had above-average infection rates, at 33.17%, 32.98%, and 32.15%, respectively.
In terms of countries with the lowest infection rates, nine were from Europe, with Japan being the sole exception outside the continent. Finland topped this list with an infection rate of 20.32%, followed by Norway at 20.51% and Sweden at 20.88%.
