Mastercard has introduced the Mastercard A2A Protect tool to enhance consumer protection and combat fraud.

This innovative solution merges advanced fraud prevention technology with a clear dispute resolution framework, allowing banks to offer consumers robust protection against fraudulent activities.

Initially, Mastercard A2A Protect will prioritize addressing the most critical issues, such as Authorized Push Payment (APP) fraud. It combines preventive measures with consumer safeguards and facilitates the recovery of funds in these scenarios.

Details about the Mastercard A2A Protect Launch

According to the official press release, the solution is designed to support participating bank clients throughout each transaction by preventing fraud. It enhances payment scoring capabilities, aids in identifying high-risk transactions, complements banks’ efforts, leverages Trace to prevent money laundering and financial crimes, and assists in detecting or closing ‘mule’ accounts.

Additionally, Mastercard A2A Protect will streamline the dispute resolution process for customers while providing banks with a simplified framework. It also introduces a set of multilateral standards to promote best practices and secure clients.

The service is being rolled out in collaboration with Monzo, NatWest, and Santander across UK Faster Payments, expected later in 2025.
