Google Pay has expanded its presence in Oman, making contactless payments accessible to Android users via supported websites and mobile apps.
This move builds upon recent expansions into other regions like Lebanon, reflecting the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance digital payment options across the Middle East.
Currently, Sohar International Bank is the sole financial institution in Oman that supports Google Pay. This service is available for customers holding international debit, credit, and prepaid cards issued by the bank. To enable this feature, users need to add their card information through the Google Wallet app on Android devices running version 9 or later.

Although contactless purchases are now possible with Google Pay, other features such as peer-to-peer transfers and payments for specific domestic services remain unavailable. According to Google representatives, the system is equipped with robust security measures, including unique virtual card numbers for each device and transaction-specific dynamic codes.
The introduction of Google Pay aligns with broader trends in Oman’s digital payment landscape. In 2024, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay were also introduced to encourage more digital transactions and reduce reliance on cash. These initiatives are supported by the Central Bank of Oman’s objectives for the country.
Additional Developments
In June 2025, Klarna became accessible through Google Pay, enabling customers to use flexible payment solutions when shopping online on select Android apps and websites. This partnership underscores Klarna’s commitment to providing consumers with more flexible and transparent payment options.
At the time of integration, Klarna officials highlighted that this was a significant step towards offering flexible payment solutions in environments where users are already active.
